President Goodluck Jonathan has flagged off the National Schools Agriculture Programme, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According
to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Schools
Agriculture Programme, Dr. Baraka Sani, the goal of the programme is to
build technical and entrepreneurship skills in the students to run
agriculture as a business.
Sani said the programme was also aimed
at equipping school leavers with practical life skills to create jobs
for themselves and to enable the youth develop a positive attitude
towards agriculture.
She said that as part of the pilot phase, a
School Agribusiness Club would be established in selected schools from
12 states of the federation across the six geo-political zones.
